The Macungie Ambulance Corps has realized the lack of a dedicated support unit for area firefighters and other emergency responders on physically and emotionally demanding incidents.  Several such incidents have tried our (and other services) ability to cope with the specialized needs of these personnel.

The stress experienced by emergency responders in these situations is extremely unique and is not easily handled with the equipment readily available on a normally equipped EMS unit.  The purpose of this special operations unit is to bridge the gap between normal EMS care and a dedicated canteen service.

This unit can be requested at any time by any emergency response agency within Lehigh county and surrounding areas.  It is meant to supplement the EMS units already operating on the scene, not replace them.  Members responding with the unit are knowledgeable in rehab theory and practice and will supply the equipment and supplies needed for proper emergency incident rehabilitation.

Terrain Response Vehicle (6653)

The Terrain Response Vehicle is a Kubota RTV with an E-Muvr Ambulance package which is designed to provide Basic or Advanced Life Support Care while transporting a patient on a standard ambulance litter over difficult terrain. This unit can be requested through the Lehigh County 911 center and is towed by the special operations unit.

Mass Casualty Incident Trailer

Also housed at the Macungie Ambulance Corps is a Lehigh County / Northeast Region Counter Terrorism Task Force Mass Casualty Incident Trailer. It is designed to provide support for EMS units on large scale mass casualty incidents. It can be requested directly through the Lehigh County 911 center; however, the best method of requesting resources during a large-scale disaster is through an Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Lehigh County EOC, in conjunction with the Eastern PA EMS Council, has an extensive list of EMS resources available. Coordinating requests through those agencies will ensure you receive the resources that you need.

EMS Strike Team

The Macungie Ambulance Corps participates in the Pennsylvania Department of Health EMS Strike Team program. This program is designed to develop trained, equipped, and protected EMS crews for mutual aid, intrastate and interstate requests for EMS assistance in responding to catastrophic casualty events. Our team is one of ten teams in the Eastern PA EMS Region and over 150 teams in the state. These specially trained and equipped ambulance crews are able to respond, within four hours, to missions anywhere in the country lasting up to two weeks.

EMS Bike Team

These specially trained EMS personnel are able to respond to emergencies in potentially crowded and congested pedestrian environments on bicycles. They bring the skills and equipment needed to save lives in a crowd long before crews on foot or in a vehicle would be able to arrive. Combined with our ATV, the Macungie Ambulance Corps is able to provide premier public safety services at any large scale gathering.
